Rupert Pole I think I must have read in Deidre Bair's book about Rupert Pole seeing faces gazing at him every night. He had nightmares and so. (This reminds me of Anais Nin's strange abortion)
Anyone out there who knows where I can find above information? Because I looked and looked but can't find it back. |

Re: Rupert Pole Hello,
I do believe it is in Diedre Bair's biography. I recently re-read it and remember it being mentioned. Best, Natascha |

Re: Rupert Pole Yes, the abortion incident is related in Deirdre Bair's bio. You must remember that she's a devout Catholic and definitely not pro-choice. Rupert didn't have nightmares, however. Bair made that up to advance her own opinions. The bio, unfortunately, does not delve into Anais' life as a writer as much as capitalize on the events of her artistic and bohemian life to sell books. When Bair wrote about BECKET, I think, she lauded his achievements and didn't make mountains out of his experiences. With Anais, Bair was judgmental, a no-no for a biographer. Read "Birth" in Anais' UNDER A GLASS BELL to learn how the abortion inspired her to create in spite of the great pain from a personal decision. Rochelle Lynn HoltQuote:

Re: Rupert Pole That's interesting that Bair made up Rupet's nightmares! I definately agree that the book had a very judgemental tone, which got pretty irritating after a while...

Re: Rupert Pole I assume you've read the bio on Anais by Noel Fitch Riley? What did you think of that one? Rochelle L. Holt

Re: Rupert Pole Yes, I've read that one as well, but it was several years ago. I plan on re-reading it soon, after I finish the book I'm currently reading about Anais (trying to maintain a "one at a time" rule). The book is called "SEduction: A Portrait of Anais Nin" by Margot Beth Duxler, Ph.D. It takes a different approach than the traditional biography, and includes the author's personal experience with Anais, a brief chronological bio, and an analysis of her life from a phsycological perspective, closing with an essay about diary writing. So far I've found it quite illuminating. I think it could be a must read for anyone seeking to thouroughly understand Anais Nin.
Have you read it? What was your impression? |

Re: Rupert Pole Just finished SEDUCTION, portrait of Anais Nin by Margot Beth Duxler, a psychologist. I don't think too much of it though she's attempted some new info but with too much leaning on Bair's bio which was slanted because Bair is a Catholic. The numerous theories espoused by the psychiatrists/psychologists are for the most part, balony. However, they've inspired me to write an article/review about this book which I'll do after we recover from Wilma. We were lucky; only 2 days without power; 3 days without cable TV; 5 days without phone/e mail. No broken windows, no leaks, no fallen shingles but many felled trees worse than last year's Charley. Write me on my home e-mail to be found at end of my site www.angelfire.com/blues2/rlynnholt Thanks. Rochelle
